Washington, DC, October 31, 2011 — AMIDEAST is pleased to announce the appointment of Quincy Dermody as new country director for Tunisia. Ms. Dermody, who will be based in Tunis, brings over 10 years of experience in international education to this position. Nearly eight of those years were spent at AMIDEAST headquarters, managing several key scholarship, exchange, and internship programs that AMIDEAST implements on behalf of a wide range of sponsors. During her tenure, she has also been actively involved in new business development and has taken on a number of short-term, field-based assignments in other areas.

Ms. Dermody additionally brings a background in English language training that will be important in her new position. Prior to coming to AMIDEAST, she worked as an English instructor through the American University in Cairo and at the Kiribati Teachers’ College, Republic of Kiribati. She holds a master’s degree in Education and a bachelor’s degree in Ancient Civilizations, both from Clark University. Having grown up in Senegal and in Egypt, she speaks French and some Arabic.
Ms. Dermody takes over in Tunisia at a historic moment. She will lead AMIDEAST’s efforts to support Tunisia’s democratic transition with expanded training and educational opportunities, particularly among less advantaged groups and for youth and women. In addition to overseeing AMIDEAST’s ongoing array of educational programs and services offered in Tunis and Sousse, Ms. Dermody will be launching a new entrepreneurship training center later this year as part of an expanded partnership with the Cisco Entrepreneur Institute.
