Cisco Entrepreneur Institute at AMIDEAST/Tunisia

The Cisco Entrepreneur Institute is a global initiative by Cisco® and supports entrepreneurs worldwide by working with local governments and business organizations to foster the creation and success of small- and medium-sized businesses. The Institute provides practical business insights for entrepreneurs, facilitates knowledge sharing with local business leaders, and shows participants how to take advantage of technology to speed business growth.

The Institute offers state-of-the-art training, networking, and business resources, and was created to help entrepreneurs improve their skills and enhance business development opportunities. It also provides a forum for owners of small and medium-sized businesses to collaborate and share business expertise.

Palestinian Youth Empowerment and Volunteerism Program

The Palestinian Youth Empowerment and Volunteerism Program, funded by the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem aims to empower Palestinian youth between the ages of 18-25 by engaging them in leadership roles in proposing, organizing, and implementing youth-led community service and other community initiatives that make a positive impact on their city, governorate, and nation.
 
In order to achieve the program main goal, the Palestinian Youth Empowerment and Volunteerism program will provide youth throughout the West Bank with opportunities to gain leadership and life skills through a training program followed by the opportunity to develop and propose for funding their own community-based, youth-led volunteer initiatives, which the youth themselves will implement if their proposals are selected funding.  
 
By the conclusion of the program’s activities, AMIDEAST, together with local NGO partner the Rozana Association, will have developed and enhanced the leadership and community engagement skills of 90 youth, as well as promoted and spread a spirit of volunteerism throughout the communities impacted by the youth-led community initiatives. 

A certificate will be provided at the successful completion of the program.

AMIDEAST, Citi Foundation to Offer Women's Entrepreneurship Training in Four Countires


Washington, DC/, Kuwait, UAE, Lebanon, Morocco —The American non-profit education organization AMIDEAST and Citi Foundation—Citi’s philanthropic arm—today announced the launch of the Arab Women’s Entrepreneurship Project (AWEP) in four countries:  Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, and the UAE.

أمديست ومؤسسة سيتي الاجتماعية يقدمان برنامج تدريبي في
تنظيم المشاريع للسيدات في أربع دول عربية

 

وسيبدأ البرنامج في نوفمبر 2011 بهدف توفير التدريب اللازم إلى 80 امرأة من ذوي الدخل المحدود ليبدأن بمشاريعهن الجديدة أو توسيع مشاريعهن الحالية. وستنظم أمديست دورة تدريبية تمتد على مدى 3 أسابيع بهدف زيادة الوعي وتعليم المهارات الأساسية في إدارة الأعمال لهؤلاء النساء كوضع خطة عمل، وكيفية الحصول على قرض، والمحاسبة الأساسية والعامة. وسيتبع هذه الدورة ستة أشهر ليقمن النساء بتطبيق ما تعلمنه بمساعدة وإشراف شبكة النساء المتعددة التابعة لسيتي على مواجهة التحديات والعقبات التي قد يواجهنها هؤلاء النساء. كما ستجتمع النساء باستمرار لمراجعة تقدمهن وليشاركن بعضهن البعض نجاحاتهن. هذا بالإضافة إلى تأسيس موقع الكتروني للنساء ليشاركن بعضهن البعض وتشجيعهن على التواصل في هذه المرحلة.

ويذكر أن فرص التدريب للنساء العربيات وخصوصاً في تنظيم المشاريع المختلفة تساهم في تنمية التطور العام في المنطقة حيث تقول دراسة أجرتها اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لمنطقة غرب آسيا التابعة للأمم المتحدة في عام 2009 أن دخل المرأة العربية ينخفض بمعدل أقل من ربع معدلات الدخل القومي. كما وجدت الدراسة أن النساء أصحاب المشاريع يواجهن تحديات كبيرة فيما يتعلق بتوفير التدريب والأسواق والتمويل لهن، مع أن هذه المشاريع توفر نسبة عالية من فرص التوظيف للنساء بل ويميلون أصحاب هذا المشاريع إلى تعيين النساء بشكل أكبر من غيرهم.
وتعقيبا على هذا التعاون المشترك، عبر السيد ثيودور قاتوف، الرئيس التنفيذي والرئيس الفخري لأمديست قائلا: "يسعدنا أن نتعاون مع مؤسسة سيتي الخيرية لتقديم فرص تدريبية قيمة للنساء في الكويت، والمغرب، ولبنان، والامارات العربية المتحدة. نحن في أمديست نركز على منح النساء المهارات والتقنيات اللازمة لمساعدتهن على إنجاح أعمالهن وتحقيق النجاح الاقتصادي".

وقد أوضح السيد عتيق الرحمن، المدير التنفيذي لمجموعة سيتي المصرفية فى الشرق الأوسط: "يوفر تعاوننا مع أمديست الفرص للنساء أصحاب المشاريع لقيادة هذه المشاريع وإدارتها والمساهمة بخلق فرص عمل في أسواقهن المختلفة. كما يُكَمِّلُ هذا التعاون جهودنا التي نبذلها في هذا المجال في عدد من الأسواق في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا".

وتزاول سيتي نشاطها في منطقة العالم العربي منذ حوالى نصف قرن، وتُصنِّف المنطقة واحدة من أسرع الأسواق نمواً ضمن استراتيجيتها العالمية. وتوفر المجموعة المصرفية باقة واسعة من خدمات المؤسسات والشركات في عشر دول عربية هي : الإمارات العربية المتحدة ، الكويت ، قطر ، البحرين ، لبنان ، مصر ، الأردن ، تونس ، المغرب ، الجزائر.

وتعمل أمديست، المؤسسة الغير ربحية، من خلال 20 مكتبا في الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا على توفير المزيد من الفرص التعليمية، وتقوية المؤسسات المحلية، ومساعدة الأفراد على تطوير المهارات العملية واللغات الضرورية للنجاح في الاقتصاد العالمي

 

 

 

Arab Women's Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP)

The Arab Women’s Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP) is a Citi Foundation-funded initiative, implemented by AMIDEAST in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Morocco.  In each country 20 women will compete to be selected to participate in the program and receive:

15 Days of training on business skills, conducted in Arabic, on topics such as:

  • What makes a successful entrepreneur
  • How to register a business in Lebanon
  • How to fund a new business or business growth
  • How to assess risk and feasibility
  • Strategic planning
  • Accounting and cash flow
  • Customer service
  • Sales skills

In addition:

  • Site visits will be made to selected small businesses started and run by women
  • Successful women entrepreneurs will act as guest speakers
  • Participants will develop a business plan
  • Participants will be connected to those who can help fund their business
  • Mentors will support participating entrepreneurs as they establish their new businesses, or grow their existing businesses
  • Individual progress will be monitored throughout the program
  • The local group will gather regularly to discuss each other’s progress and share advice, experiences, and success stories
  • Participants gain access to AMIDEAST’s new online Entrepreneurship Forum that enables you to network and support each other during this period, both within and across countries
