A training program funded by the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues of the United States Department of State

The Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues of the U.S. Department of State is accepting nominations for qualified Iraqi women leaders in legal and civil society professions for a training program designed to expand opportunities for women in Iraqi society. The two-week program will be conducted in the U.S. in English, with simultaneous interpretation into Arabic.

Target Audience

This program is designed to support Iraqi women working in law or in the civil society sector in addressing issues related to gender-based violence.

Program Objectives

The purpose of this program is:

USAID/Ruwwad YDRC English Language Training Program

AMIDEAST is implementing an English Language Training program through a subgrant from EDC –Ruwwad Youth Empowerment Program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The program will teach English to Palestinian youth served by the Youth Development Resource Centers (YDRCs) in Hebron, Nablus, and Ramallah/El-Bireh. AMIDEAST will upgrade the English language proficiency of an estimated 900 youth by the conclusion of this 11-month program, including high school students, college students, students about to enter the workforce, and working youth. AMIDEAST proposes to not only train Palestinian youth served by the YDRCs, but also to build capacity within the YDRC network and the Palestinian community as a whole to deliver English training by providing fresh graduates from English Language programs at Palestinian universities with training in the field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), who will then teach English at the YDRCs.

Iraqi Women in Engineering and Applied Sciences (IWASE) Program

 AMIDEAST is currently accepting applications on behalf of the Iraqi Women Fellowship Foundation (IWFF) for the second year of the Iraqi Women in Engineering and Applied Sciences (IWASE) program, a one- year fellowship at a U.S. University which includes two months of pre-academic English language training.  This program is funded through multiple sources and administered by AMIDEAST. 

This solicitation has no deadline.  For the best chance, apply as soon as possible.  As each IWASE opportunity arises, applications already received will be reviewed.   

IWASE FINALISTS MUST HAVE AN IRAQI G PASSPORT IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE.  IF YOU DO NOT, PLEASE APPLY FOR ONE IMMEDIATELY.

10,000 Women is a five-year investment by Goldman Sachs to provide 10,000 underserved women around the world with a business and management education. In partnership with The American University in Cairo (AUC), AMIDEAST is recruiting its first cohort of Jordanian women to participate in 10,000 Women. Selected participants travel to Cairo to attend the Women’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership Program (WEL), a program designed by the Wharton School of Business specifically for 10,000 Women. Through WEL, participants are trained in marketing, strategic planning, accounting, accessing capital, market research, e-commerce, and business plan writing strategies. AMIDEAST expects to recruit up to 7 participants from Jordan this year.

In Cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Lebanese Union of Mutual Funds

This activity will introduce legal reform to existing laws and regulations in addition to building the financial and management capacities of Mutual Funds. The activity will start with reviewing current laws and regulations pertaining to MFs.  After revision, amendments to existing laws or drafts for new ones will be presented to the Parliament followed by lobbying for their passage.  Training material will be developed and training will be conducted for MF managerial and financial staff who will commit to good governance procedures. A national conference and a website will serve as platforms to bring together the different stakeholders and make further information about Mutual Funds available to the public at large.
