Welcome: Katie Johnson, EdAbroad Coordinator

AMIDEAST is proud to introduce our new Coordinator, Katie Johnson!

Katie comes to us from Duke University, where she was the Program Coordinator for the Middle East Studies Center and managed outreach and development for its consortium with UNC.  Prior to Duke, Katie lived in Istanbul for several years teaching at Bilgi University and working closely in many capacities with the university’s study abroad and exchange partnerships in conjunction with the Danish Institute for Study Abroad and the Erasmus Programme.  For more than a decade, Katie has also been the Library Fellow and managing editor for TARII (The American Research Institute in Iraq), and has developed extensive connections with both Iraqi and foreign scholars of Iraq and organizations such as CAORC (the Council of American Overseas Research Centers) here in DC.  Katie earned two advanced degrees from The University of Chicago, where she specialized in Islamic Archaeology, particularly that of the Ottoman period.

Katie’s background in academic administration, study abroad, her language skills, and her diverse experience of and perspective on the MENA region will serve her well in her work on both customized and proprietary programs, and in helping us meet the challenges of a rapidly changing study abroad landscape.

Please join us in welcoming Katie to AMIDEAST!
