Job Title: Educational Adviser/Scholarship Officer, OMAN

Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct group advising sessions on the U.S. educational system and admissions process, orientation to U.S. life and study, visa-related issues, returning home from U.S. study, and other topics relevant to U.S. education for international students and scholars.
- Plan and conduct public outreach activities and information-sharing programs to varied groups around Oman interested in U.S. higher education, U.S. examinations/tests, and academic exchange opportunities.
- Manage scholarship programs, such as promotion, recruitment, screening, testing, and pre-departure orientation for Omani participants in U.S.-based programs.
- Manage the latest information resources on U.S. higher education, Oman’s education system, standardized testing, bulletins and catalogues, and other reference, educational and professional development materials, and oversee the development and maintenance of the advising library.
- Prepare and execute marketing plan for advising services and resources, including on-line marketing, and assist interested individuals in using those services and resources.
- Conduct Internet searches to locate specific information on U.S. universities and on financial aid options for foreign students.
- Offer individual advising interviews and follow-up, both on-line and in person, to help individuals select and apply for appropriate U.S. programs.
- Develop articles, brochures, multi-media educational materials, and promotional mailings, working with educational advisers in other offices and Headquarters staff.
- Assist with U.S. test promotion and registrations.
- Supervise the resale of educational materials.
- Act as liaison with visiting scholars, university officials, and institutional visitors, assisting with their visits to Oman and/or responding to their information requests.
- Develop and conduct alumni activities.
- Assist with the development and monitoring of program budgets.
- Assist with development and maintenance of contact database.
- Communicate with U.S. Department of State counterparts, AMIDEAST/HQ and other AMIDEAST field offices.
- Represent AMIDEAST at educational fairs, advising conferences, and seminars.
- Establish, foster and maintain positive relations with clients, partners and local/international institutions, including the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, private and public secondary schools, and colleges and universities.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and interns.
- Prepare monthly, semi-annual and annual statistical and narrative reports on advising visitors and activities.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Two or more years of full-time substantial, relevant work experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent minimum, including long-term educational experience completed in the United States.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of U.S. and local educational systems and credentials.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proficiency in English and Arabic.
- Demonstrated ability to produce clearly written and attractive materials appropriate for local audiences.
- Significant experience in communicating with the public, including presentation skills.
- Proficiency in computer use, including Microsoft Office programs, Internet research, and online communications such as chats, listservs, and message boards.
- Demonstrated skills in marketing and promotion.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Must possess problem-solving skills, be a team player and a self-starter.
- Strong organizational and library management skills.
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and customer service orientation.
- Availability to work hours in excess of 8 per day or 40 per week as needed.
- Availability for travel both within and outside Oman.
