AMIDEAST is a private, nonprofit organization
devoted to strengthening mutual understanding
and cooperation between Americans and the
peoples of the Middle East and North Africa.
AMIDEAST provides English language and professional
skills training, educational advising, and
testing services to hundreds of thousands
of students and professionals in the Middle
East and North Africa; supports numerous
institutional development projects in the
region; and administers educational exchange
programs that enable students and professionals
from the region to study in the United States
and Americans to study in the region.

what countries does AMIDEAST operate? |
AMIDEAST has a presence and works cooperatively on projects in nearly every country
in the Middle East and North Africa. Field
offices are located in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan,
Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia,
United
Arab Emirates, West Bank/Gaza, and Yemen.
AMIDEASTs headquarters are in Washington,
D.C.

I apply for a scholarship through AMIDEAST? |
AMIDEAST does not provide scholarships;
we administer scholarship programs such
as the Fulbright and other government and
private programs. Inquiries should be directed
to the scholarship program itself or to
the appropriate AMIDEAST field office.
| Are
there other organizations working to
strengthen ties between Arabs and Americans?

Yes, there are numerous organizations working
in the fields of U.S.-Arab relations as
well as on Arab American issues. Please

| Does
AMIDEAST offer courses in the Arabic
language? |
AMIDEAST does offer colloquial Arabic courses
at some of its field offices, but not in
the United States. Those living in the Washington,
DC area, who are interested in Arabic language
courses, are advised to contact the Middle
East Institute, the United
States Department of Agriculture Graduate
School, or Georgetown
University Continuing Education.
